Effects of local and remote black carbon aerosols on summer monsoon precipitation over India

چکیده

Abstract In this study, we perform idealized climate model simulations to assess the relative impacts of an increase in local black carbon (BC) aerosols (located over Indian region) and remote BC outside on summer monsoon precipitation India. We decompose changes into fast adjustments triggered by introduction forcing agent slow response that is associated with global mean temperature change. find a 60-fold ‘present-day’ distribution leads India, which mainly contributed aerosols. When are increased, contribute association warming northern hemisphere land related northward Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) shift. For too, enhancing upper tropospheric meridional gradient region, The contributions both cases regional patterns SST change resulting region zonal circulation changes. net India (decrease) for (local) As interpretation our results relies ITCZ shift planetary energetics, differing land-ocean gradients from study likely be robust across models.

Climate effects of black carbon aerosols in China and India.

In recent decades, there has been a tendency toward increased summer floods in south China, increased drought in north China, and moderate cooling in China and India while most of the world has been warming. We used a global climate model to investigate possible aerosol contributions to these trends. We found precipitation and temperature changes in the model that were comparable to those obser...

Effects of large-scale deforestation on precipitation in the monsoon regions: remote versus local effects.

In this paper, using idealized climate model simulations, we investigate the biogeophysical effects of large-scale deforestation on monsoon regions. We find that the remote forcing from large-scale deforestation in the northern middle and high latitudes shifts the Intertropical Convergence Zone southward. This results in a significant decrease in precipitation in the Northern Hemisphere monsoon...

Distinct effects of anthropogenic aerosols on the East Asian summer monsoon between multidecadal strong and weak monsoon stages

Because industrial emissions of anthropogenic aerosols over East Asia have greatly increased in recent decades, the interactions between atmospheric aerosols and the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) have attracted enormous attention. To further understand the aerosol-EASM interaction, we investigate the impacts of anthropogenic aerosols on the EASM during the multidecadal strong (1950–1977) and...

Satellite and Gpcp Data Show Co-variability of Aerosols and Precipitation over the Indian Monsoon Region

The time-latitude cross section of climatological daily variations of Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer–Aerosol Index (TOMS-AI) (upper panel) and the GEWEX Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) 5-day mean rainfall (lower panel) over the Indian subcontinent show that the high aerosol region in Northern India during June–July overlaps with the rain area, indicating that aerosols may inte...

Absorbing Aerosols and Summer Monsoon Evolution over South Asia: An Observational Portrayal

The South Asian haze builds up from December to May, is mostly of anthropogenic origin, and absorbs part of the solar radiation. The influence of interannual variations of absorbing aerosols over the IndoGangetic Plain in May on the Indian summer monsoon is characterized by means of an observational analysis. Insight into how the aerosol impact is generated is also provided. It is shown that an...
