Effects of land use/land cover alterations on regional meteorology over Northwest India

چکیده

Irrigation activities, as part of the agricultural green revolution, in Northwest India are aimed at transforming barrenland to agriculturally productive area. The main objective this study is determine effects these land use cover (LULC) transformations on regional meteorology over region. Satellite derived LULC classes 2003 and 2012 reveal conversion significantly large areas open shrubland cropland India. Model simulations show that changes (LULCC) alone decreases sensible heat flux (SHF) region by ?5.85 ± 0.24Wm?2 enhances latent (LHF) 11.03 0.41Wm?2, with prominent exact regions LULCC. These alterations lead decrease surface level air temperature ?0.14 0.005 K increase relative humidity 1.48 0.03%. While reanalysis data (decrease) LHF a rate 8.5Wm?2dec?1 (?5.67Wm?2dec?1), satellite measurements increasing trend near 2.13%dec?1 an daily mean (0.3Kdec?1). However, day time diurnal range rates ?0.007Kdec?1 ? 0.6Kdec?1 respectively. To delineate contribution LULCC from measured temperatures, Observation Minus Reanalysis (OMR) method has been employed. OMR analysis shows decreasing (?0.48Kdec?1) RH (6.85% dec?1), corroborating model simulated changes. vegetated area India, which leads evapo-transpiration. This affects enhancing SHF reducing temperature. results demonstrate land-based mitigation strategies yield measurable climatic benefits period one or two decades, contrast much longer generally required for greenhouse gases cycle through climate system.

Impact of land-use and land-cover changes on temperature trends over Western India

We study the regional variation of temperature trends (warming or cooling) over Western India and the contribution of land-use and land-cover (LULC) changes towards this warming or cooling based on temperature datasets of 37 years (1973–2009). The contribution of LULC to the warming or cooling is estimated based on deviation in temperature in the observation and reanalysis datasets. The observe...

Effects of urban land expansion on the regional meteorology and air quality of Eastern China

Rapid urbanization throughout eastern China is imposing an irreversible effect on local climate and air quality. In this paper, we examine the response of a range of meteorological and air quality indicators to urbanization. Our study uses the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with chemistry (WRF/Chem) to simulate the climate and air quality impacts of four hypothetical urbanizatio...

Effects of Land Cover and Regional Climate Variations on Long-Term Spatiotemporal Changes in Sagebrush Ecosystems

This research investigated the effects of climate and land cover change on variation in sagebrush ecosystems. We combined information of multi-year sagebrush distribution derived from multitemporal remote sensing imagery and climate data to study the variation patterns of sagebrush ecosystems under different potential disturbances. We found that less than 40% of sagebrush ecosystem changes invo...

Effects of Urbanization on Land Use/Land Cover and Stream Flow of a Sub-Tropical River Basin of India

Rapid urbanization changes the land use/land cover pattern of a developing region. Due to these land surface changes, stream flow of the rivers also changes. It is important to investigate the factors affecting hydrological characteristics of the river basin for better river basin management planning. This study is aimed to understand the effect of Land Use/Land Cover (LU/LC) changes on stream ...

Impact of urban land cover change on land surface temperature

The rapid growth in urban population is seen to create a need for the development of more urban infrastructures. In order to meet this need, natural surfaces such as vegetation are been replaced with non-vegetated surfaces such as asphalt and bricks which has the ability to absorb heat and release it later. This change in land cover is seen to increase the land surface temperature. Previous stu...
