Effects of Holy Basil (Ocimum Sanctum Linnaeus) On the Modulation Of Stress in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus Linnaeus)

چکیده
Fish in aquaculture face stress, which is a major concern due to its effects on the overall wellbeing of fish. To modulate stress responses, researchers are turning use nutraceuticals rather than chemical drugs. In six-week long study, holy basil (Ocimum sanctum) was used observe Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Stress induced by adding cortisol with feed as supplement. Three different treatments (control, stress- basil), each two replicates, were measure serum cortisol, lysozyme activity, macrophage phagocytosis, spleen somatic index, and condition factor. Basil had no significant effect any parameters when comparing treatments. But result showed imperative supplement both stress-basil groups. The results suggest that may have potentials response tilapia. J. Biodivers. Conserv. Bioresour. Manag. 2022, 8(2): 1-12

Proximate composition of selected potential feedstuffs for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linnaeus) production in Kenya
Nutrition is vital in fish farming because feed costs represent 40–50 % of the total variable production costs (SHANG, 1992; CRAIG and HELFRICH, 2002). For several decades, fishmeal has been used as the main source of protein in fish feeds (TACON and JACKSON, 1985; TACON, 1993; EL-SAIDY and GABER, 2004; ALCESTE and JORY, 2000). However, the periodically occurring low availability, competition a...

Biomarkers in Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) to Assess the Impacts of River Nile Pollution: Bioaccumulation, Biochemical and Tissues Biomarkers
The use of biomarkers has become an important tool for modern environmental assessment as they can help to predict pollutants involved in the monitoring program. Here I present data on bioaccumulation, biochemical and tissues biomarkers in Nile tilapia as early warning indicators of river Nile pollution. Nile tilapia sampled from downstream sites accumulated higher levels of all the detected he...
متن کاملMelatonin Induced Changes in Specific Growth Rate, Gonadal Maturity, Lipid and Protein Production in Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus 1758)
We have investigated the effect of melatonin (MLT) on specific growth rate (SGR% day(-1)), condition factor (k), gonado-somatic-index (GSI), histological structures of gonads, serum as well as gonadal protein and lipid in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus. MLT treatment in the dose of 25 μg/L for three weeks reduced SGR% day(-1) (0.9±0.04) as compared to control (1.23±0.026). The GSI value was...
متن کاملCascading effects of introduced Nile perch (Lates niloticus) on the foraging ecology of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)
Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) is the dominant of the introduced tilapiines in many East African lakes and has flourished in the presence of introduced Nile perch (Lates niloticus L.). We explored the hypothesis that O. niloticus exhibits increased omnivory in response to a decline in abundance of haplochromine cichlids. First, we quantified variation in habitat use and diet of O. nilo...
