Effects of Coastal Urbanization on Habitat Quality: A Case Study in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

Coastal areas are usually considered as pioneering for economic development and reform due to their unique geographical locations ecological conditions. Correspondingly, rapid urbanization in coastal urban agglomerations has resulted population concentration land use/cover change (LUCC), leading the decline of habitat quality biodiversity. However, few studies have quantitatively explored impacts agglomeration expansion zones on quality. Taking Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Great Bay Area (GBA) a case study, we applied Integrated Valuation Ecosystem Services Trade-offs (InVEST) model assess based use data obtained from remote sensing images 1980 2020 developed geographically weighted regression analyze response urbanization. The results showed that (1) LUCC GBA was dramatic 2020, dominated by shift various types construction land, which led increased fragmentation; (2) overall decreasing trend, characterized low values central part high surrounding area; (3) such elements had more significantly negative effect changes, while relationships among slope, road distance, changes were complex. Based above analysis, this paper suggests future management should develop direction intensification, refinement, regional integration.
