چکیده

Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner) is a major pest of sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, in the United States and neighboring Caribbean countries including Haiti. Laboratory, greenhouse, field experiments were conducted to determine effects biological insecticides on M. infesting sorghum. Azadirachtin, pyrethrins, Beauveria bassiana strain GHA, Isaria fumosorosea Apopka 97, Chromobacterium subtsugae PRAA4-1T, Burkholderia spp. A396, vetiver oil compared conventional insecticide, flupyradifurone. In laboratory, sorghum leaf discs sprayed with treatment solutions subsequently infested nymphs. potted plants before or after infestation field, plots exposed natural infestations solutions. All insecticide treatments except I. associated 58–100% aphid mortality 72 h which was greater than 20% observed non-treated control. azadirachtin pyrethrins lowest levels 7 days treatment. Flupyradifurone greatest laboratory greenhouse. decreases relative control not although flupyradifurone consistently infestations. Our results suggest that azadirachtin, B. could potentially if applied under favorable environmental conditions.

Host Plant Specialization in the Sugarcane Aphid Melanaphis sacchari

Most aphids are highly specialized on one or two related plant species and generalist species often include sympatric populations adapted to different host plants. Our aim was to test the hypothesis of the existence of host specialized lineages of the aphid Melanaphis sacchari in Reunion Island. To this end, we investigated the genetic diversity of the aphid and its association with host plants...

Sugarcane Aphid (Hemiptera: Aphididae): A New Pest on Sorghum in North America

In 2013, the sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), a new invasive pest of sorghum species in North America, was confirmed on sorghum in 4 states and 38 counties in the United States. In 2015, the aphid was reported on sorghum in 17 states and over 400 counties as well as all sorghum-producing regions in Mexico. Ability to overwinter on living annual and perenni...

Categorizing sugarcane cultivar resistance to the sugarcane aphid and yellow sugarcane aphid (Hemiptera: Aphididae).

Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) in Louisiana is colonized by two aphid species, the sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner), and the yellow sugarcane aphid, Sipha flava (Forbes) (Hemiptera: Aphididae). The main problem associated with M. sacchari is transmission of sugarcane yellow leaf virus, a casual agent of yellow leaf disease whose absence has been added to certification standards for m...

Sugarcane Aphid (Hemiptera: Aphididae): Host Range and Sorghum Resistance Including Cross-Resistance From Greenbug Sources.

The graminous host range and sources of sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.] plant resistance, including cross-resistance from greenbug, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani), were studied for the newly emerging sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner), in greenhouse no-choice experiments and field evaluations. The sugarcane aphid could not survive on field corn, Zea mays (L.), Teff grass, Era...
