Effect of vasopressin on electrical resistance of renal cortical collecting tubules.
HELMAN, S. I., J. J. GRANTHAM, AND M. B. BURG. Eject of vasopressin on electrical resistance of renal cortical collecting tubules. Am. J. Physiol. 220(6) : 1825-1832. 197 1 .-A method is reported for measuring the transepithelial potential difference and electrical resistance in isolated rabbit renal cortical collecting tubules. The mean resistance with isotonic perfusion fluid was 13.8 X lo4 o...
متن کاملEffect of acid lumen pH on potassium transport in renal cortical collecting tubules.
In order to determine the effect of acid lumen pH on renal tubular potassium transport, cortical collecting tubules were dissected from rabbit kidneys and perfused in vitro. When the pH of the perfusate was lowered from 7.4 to 6.8, potassium secretion into the tubule lumen decreased by an average of 47%. The transepithelial voltage increased from a mean value of -32 mV (lumen negative) at pH 7....
متن کاملUltrastructural Studies of Vasopressin Effect on Isolated Perfused Renal Collecting Tubules of the Rabbit
Isolated cortical collecting tubules from rabbit kidney were studied during perfusion with solutions made either isotonic or hypotonic to the external bathing medium. Examination of living tubules revealed a reversible increase in thickness of the cellular layer, prominence of lateral cell membranes, and formation of intracellular vacuoles during periods of vasopressin-induced osmotic water tra...
متن کاملOsmosis in Cortical Collecting Tubules
This paper reports a theoretical analysis of osmotic transients and an experimental evaluation both of rapid time resolution of lumen to bath osmosis and of bidirectional steady-state osmosis in isolated rabbit cortical collecting tubules exposed to antidiuretic hormone (ADH). For the case of a membrane in series with unstirred layers, there may be considerable differences between initial and s...
متن کاملLuminal vasopressin modulates transport in the rabbit cortical collecting duct.
We explored the action of luminal AVP in rabbit CCD perfused in vitro at 37 degrees C. Nanomolar concentrations of luminal AVP induced a sustained hyperpolarization of transepithelial voltage (Vt) in contrast to a transient hyperpolarization caused by basolateral AVP. 10 microM basolateral ouabain abolished the latter but not the former change in Vt. Despite a sustained hyperpolarization (from ...
