Effect of the Assimilation Frequency of Radar Reflectivity on Rain Storm Prediction by Using WRF-3DVAR

An attempt was made to evaluate the impact of assimilating Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) reflectivity together with Global Telecommunication System (GTS) data in three-dimensional variational assimilation (3DVAR) system Research Forecast (WRF) model on rain storm prediction Daqinghe basin northern China. The aim this study explore potential effects frequency and outputs from different domain resolutions improving meso-scale NWP rainfall products. In study, four numerical experiments (no assimilation, 1 6 h time interval DWR GTS at km horizontal resolution, radar reflectivity, 3 resolution) are carried out convective storms. results show that collectively enhanced performance WRF-3DVAR over Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region It is indicated by experimental rapid update has a positive location, tendency, development storms associated area. order influence outer output inner domain, resolution compared. effect domain. Since 3DVAR able analyze certain small-scale convective-scale features through incorporation observations, hourly does not always significantly improve precipitation forecasts because inaccurate observations. Therefore, before validity should be judged as far possible advance, which can only accuracy, but also efficiency.
