Effect of Shelterbelt Construction on Soil Water Characteristic Curves in an Extreme Arid Shifting Desert

چکیده
To explore the impact of artificial shelterbelt construction with saline irrigation on soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) shifting sandy in extreme arid desert areas, three treatments including under (US), bare land (BL) and (CK) hinterland Taklimakan Desert were selected. The age is 16, vegetation cover mainly Calligonum mongolicum. soils from different depths 0–30 cm taken keeping view objective study. SWCCs determined by centrifugal method fitting was performed using various models such as Gardner (G) model, Brooks–Corey (BC) model Van Genuchten (VG) model. Then, most suitable SWCC results showed that electrical conductivity (EC) organic matter content BL US decreased increasing depth, while EC CK increased depth. changes bulk density, 0–5 mostly significant (p < 0.05) for treatments, differences also among treatments. Moreover, an improved water-holding capacity had impacts surface soil. increase available existed form readily water. BC VG found to be better than G results, best result CK, Model higher salt contents. Comparing models, we concluded although accuracy tended decrease salinity, highest when comparing treatment high salinity. Therefore, influence salinity should considered establishing transfer function.

The taxonomic position of a Streptomyces strain isolated from an extreme hyper-arid soil sample collected from the Atacama Desert was determined using a polyphasic approach. The strain, isolate C60(T), had chemical and morphological features typical of members of the genus Streptomyces and formed a distinct phyletic line in the Streptomyces 16S rRNA gene tree, together with the type strain of S...
متن کاملSpatiotemporal Distribution of Soil Moisture and Salinity in the Taklimakan Desert Highway Shelterbelt
Salinization and secondary salinization often appear after irrigation with saline water. The Taklimakan Desert Highway Shelterbelt has been irrigated with saline ground water for more than ten years; however, soil salinity in the shelterbelt has not been evaluated. The objective of this study was to analyze the spatial and temporal distribution of soil moisture and salinity in the shelterbelt s...
متن کاملSpatial-Temporal Distribution of Soil Salt Crusts under Saline Drip Irrigation in an Artificial Desert Highway Shelterbelt
Understanding the formation and spatial-temporal distribution of soil salt crusts (SSCs) is important for the sustainable management of the artificial shelterbelt and high-salinity groundwater utility in the Taklimakan Desert in Northwest China. The SSCs in this area were sampled, and their thickness and electrical conductivity (EC) were analyzed to examine the formation mechanism and the spati...
