EFFECT OF NITROGEN LEVELS ON THE YIELD AND OTHER AGRONOMIC CHARACTERS OF LOCAL TRANSPLANTED AMAN RICE IN KHULNA

An investigation was carried out during aman season, 2005 at the Field Laboratory of Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna. Local rice variety Jatai tested against 4 different levels nitrogen viz. 0, 20, 40 and 60 kg N ha-1. The experimental results revealed that significantly affected plant height (cm), number tillers hill-1, weight 1000-grain (g), grain yield (tha-1), biological (t ha-1) harvest index (%). Higher dose (60 produced higher (127.57 cm) panicle length (20.43 cm). highest hill-1 (13), effective hill-1(11.70), filled grains panicle-1 (61.25), 1000 (30.25 g), (4.17 t ha-1), (12.46 (33.48 %) were with lowest contributing characters by control treatment (0 ha-1).
