Effect of Fiber-Telescope Coupling Losses on Wideband Wavelength Division Multiplexing in Free Space Optical Communications

The effect of telescope losses (TL) on wideband wavelength division multiplexing (Wideband-WDM) based free-space optical communication (FSOC) is investigated via OptiSystem software. In this work, both single and dual channel FSOC systems are under different weathers: clear, haze, rain, fog with attenuation 0.2 dB/km, 2.3 4.3 8.0 respectively. TL measures the coupling efficiency between fiber in transceiver assembly; therefore, considered an important design parameter for hybrid system. According to results, maximum 23 dB 29 FSOC, respectively, at clear weather condition 1 km distance. This means that dual-channel system could afford higher than by approximately 26.1 %.
