Effect of environment conditioning on mode II fracture behaviour of adhesively bonded joints

The effect of environmental conditions on the fracture behaviour two types adhesively bonded joints (wet-aged and non-aged) is experimentally studied under mode II loading. End Loaded Split tests were performed at various temperatures (−55 °C, room temperature (RT) 80 °C) non-aged aged specimens. specimens stored in a laboratory controlled RT (23 °C/55 RH) while wet-aged exposed to accelerated ageing an chamber 70 °C/85% RH for four years. data reduction was applied using inverse method other direct methods. A good agreement between these methods observed. analysis obtained results shows that extremely long aging times considerably affect response (the toughness degraded by more than 30%). Furthermore, testing high or cryogenic has significant response. Indeed, observed increase (this ranged from 8% 80%) increased brittleness adhesive which caused substantial (more 25%) joint.
