Effect of discharge accumulation on wire breakage in WEDM process

نویسندگان

چکیده

In recent years, WEDM has been adopted in precision machining as an important alternative method because of its greater flexibility and lower wear cost compared with traditional machining, whereas wire breakage during is unignorable problem that influences the quality efficiency. Therefore, it a research topic considerable interest. This work focuses on exploring reason for breakage. Firstly, by observing after discharges using finite element method, complete thermal model considering both latent heat flushing efficiency was built. With this model, simulation crater finished. Then based result gotten from experiment, partition ratio to found 46.74% inverse fitting. After that, experiment done through locating position 50 before 34% were located within range 2 mm, minimum area cross-section only remained 41.88% original wire. kind decrease made stress higher than UTS caused The findings allow more in-depth understanding effect discharge accumulation

Prediction of Surface Roughness in Wire Electric Discharge Machining (WEDM) Process based on Response Surface Methodology

This paper presents an investigation on WEDM of pure titanium (grade-2). An attempt has been made to model the response variable i.e. surface roughness in WEDM process using response surface methodology. The experimental plan is based on Box-Behnken design. Six parameters i.e. pulse on time, pulse off time, peak current, spark gap voltage, wire feed and wire tension has been varied to investiga...

Optimization of wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process parameters using genetic algorithm

Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is a special form of traditional electrical discharge machining in which the electrode is a continuously moving conducting wire. The mechanism of metal removal in wire electrical discharge machining involves the complex erosion effect from electric sparks generated by a pulsating direct current power supply. The sparks generated between two closely spa...

Optimization of wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process parameters using Taguchi method

Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is extensively used in machining of conductive materials when precision is of prime importance. Rough cutting operation in WEDM is treated as a challenging one because improvement of more than one machining performance measures viz. metal removal rate (MRR), surface finish (SF) and cutting width (kerf) are sought to obtain a precision work. Using Taguc...
