Effect of aeration on nitrogen removal-associated microbial community in an innovative vertical cork-based constructed wetland for winery wastewater treatment

چکیده
The wine industry produces large quantities of wastewater that often contains high levels organic matter and nutrients, like nitrogen phosphorous. In particular, pollution can be harmful, even at low levels, since infants are vulnerable to nitrates in drinking water, excess harm the health soils waterways. Herein, an innovative compact, modular, mobile treatment wetland (TW) using cork by product as only granular media was used treat final effluents from Codorniu winery (Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Spain). TW operated during two 5-month periods with or without intermittent induced aeration (40 min cycles, 90 L/min air flow rate). Nitrate (N-NO3) total (TN) removal were higher (52.8% 46.8%, respectively, p < 0.05) operation under aerated-condition. Additionally, qPCR analysis 16S rRNA, nirS nosZ genes revealed facilitates N-NO3 reduction stimulation denitrifying bacteria biofilm (11.4% increase copies number/g sample, well increasing number heterotrophic adhered (25.5% rRNA 0.05). Moreover, SEM images demonstrated suitability a resistant filter for after long-term system (1.5 years). conclusion, our results suggest improved compounds compared non-aerated period, affecting phosphorous elimination. residual is presented here circular bioeconomy view, suitable filling provide additional carbon source C/N rate stimulating denitrification, reliable substrate biomass growth.

Wastewater Treatment with Vertical Flow Constructed Wetland
Water is one of the most important elements involved in the creation and development of healthy life. Haphazard disposal of untreated wastewater from households as well as institutions and industry is causing severe deterioration of water bodies in many urban areas in the developing world. There are several methods to treat the municipal wastewater for intended use. One of the methods of the tr...
متن کاملNitrogen removal from industrial wastewater by hybrid constructed wetland systems
The efficiency in nitrogen removal from wastewater generated at CSBP Ltd fertiliser and chemical manufacturer by two hybrid constructed wetland mesocosms was compared. The mesocosms were set up in order to help clarify the reasons why the two year old constructed wetland located at the industrial facility, a 1.2 ha free water surface/vertical flow conjugated system, has performed under the 50% ...
متن کاملNitrogen removal and ammonia-oxidising bacteria in a vertical flow constructed wetland treating inorganic wastewater.
Nitrogen removal performance and the ammonia-oxidising bacterial (AOB) community were assessed in the batch loaded 1.3 ha saturated surface vertical flow wetland at CSBP Ltd, a fertiliser and chemical manufacturer located in Kwinana, Western Australia. From September 2008 to October 2009 water quality was monitored and sediment samples collected for bacterial analyses. During the period of stud...
متن کاملDevelopment of alum sludge-based constructed wetland: an innovative and cost effective system for wastewater treatment.
This article describes a research attempt to integrate the dewatered alum sludge, a residual by-product of drinking water treatment process, into a constructed wetland (CW) system for the purpose of enhancing the wastewater treatment performance, thus developing a so called alum sludge-based constructed wetland system. A multi-dimensional research project including the batch tests of phosphorus...
متن کاملNitrogen removal in constructed wetland systems
Since the mid 1990s, constructed wetlands have been increasingly used as a lowenergy ‘green’ technique, in the treatment of wastewater and stormwater, driven by the rising cost of fossil fuels and increasing concern about climate change. Among various applications of these wetlands, a significant area is the removal of nitrogenous pollutants to protect the water environment and to enable effect...
