Solo garlic is used as a traditional medicine with alisin suspected to have broad spectrum of antifungal and antibacterial activity. This study determines the potential juice in inhibiting growth Candida albicans Streptococcus mutans, Propionibacterium acnes along their optimal concentration. The extracted using juicer concentration 25%, 50%, 100%, then tested through agar diffusion method. results show an average inhibition at concentrations 50% 100% for 31.33 mm, 31 mm 33.66 mutans 27 31.6 37 28 32.6 mm. Therefore, freshly inhibits acnes.

Allium sativum (garlic) inhibits lipid synthesis by Candida albicans.

The effect of aqueous garlic extract on the macromolecular synthesis of Candida albicans was studied. Protein and nucleic acid syntheses were inhibited to the same extent as growth, but lipid synthesis was completely arrested. Blockage of lipid synthesis is likely an important component of the anticandidal activity of garlic.

Nicotine Enhances Interspecies Relationship between Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans

Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans are common microorganisms in the human oral cavity. The synergistic relationship between these two species has been deeply explored in many studies. In the present study, the effect of alkaloid nicotine on the interspecies between S. mutans and C. albicans is explored. We developed a dual-species biofilm model and studied biofilm biomass, biofilm struct...

Allyl alcohol and garlic (Allium sativum) extract produce oxidative stress in Candida albicans.

Both the growth and respiration of Candida albicans are sensitive to extracts of Allium sativum and investigations into the anticandidal activities are now focussing on the purified constituents to determine the targets of inhibition. Of particular interest is allyl alcohol (AA), a metabolic product that accumulates after trituration of garlic cloves. Putative targets for AA were investigated b...
