چکیده
Abstract In-service non-destructive inspection (NDI) is a very important part of the aircraft maintenance program that minimizes breakdowns due to fracture critical components. The eddy current (EC) NDI method one most applicable methods for this purpose, its high sensitivity fatigue cracks and corrosion damage in main structural materials. In paper, selective double differential type EC probes characterized by enhanced possibility detecting subsurface initiated or stress phenomena are presented. For different applications, family was developed with sizes (from 5 33 mm) spatial resolutions. These types operational frequencies wide frequency range 0.2 kHz 1.0 MHz), penetration depth unique defects (like elongated local corrosive pitting), level specific noise suppression concerned scanning procedures. proposed were investigated as effective tools characteristic applications defect detection multilayer structures, such second layer riveted two-layer structure on side surface reinforcing hoop influence; arc welding rough surface; through repair patches fabricated from aluminum alloy carbon fiber reinforced plastic, etc. techniques create remarkable possibilities well-timed dangerous without disassembling removing protective coating.

Eddy Current Damping in Structures
When a conductive material is subjected to a time-varying magnetic flux, eddy currents are generated in the conductor. These eddy currents circulate inside the conductor generating a magnetic field of opposite polarity as the applied magnetic field. The interaction of the two magnetic fields causes a force that resists the change in magnetic flux. However, due to the internal resistance of the ...

The objective of this research program is to develop microwave scattering techniques for obtaining quantitative information about the characteristic dimensions of surface cracks in metals. Work carried out during the past year has emphasized experimental techniques. The use of an IF bridge and a nearfield dielectric probe to improve the sensitivity of our 100-GHz eddy-current measurement system...
متن کاملApplications of Flat Geometry Remote Field Eddy Current Techniques in Aircraft Nondestructive Inspection
The Flat Geometry Remote Eddy Current (FG RFEC) Technique has its unique advantages in aircraft non-destructive inspection (NDI) including deep penetration, high sensitivity, portability, low price, etc. The technique has recently been recognized by aircraft NDI societies. Currently FG RFEC technique is capable of detecting deeply hidden cracks and corrosion flaws. This paper will introduce the...

It is estimated that over 25% of the world's commercial airline fleets are composed of aircraft over the age of 20 years. As a result of these aircraft exceeding their initial projected lifetime the issue of in-service inspection has become critical for the safe and economical management of fleets. The requirement for reducing inspection time by minimising 'false calls' and avoiding inspection ...
متن کاملDetection of Hidden Flaws with GMR-Based Eddy Current Technique
Nondestructive inspections involving multi-layered structures often require a reliable NDI methodology to estimate size and location of a flaw with quantitative information about width and depth. Compared to conventional wire-wound pick-up coil based eddy current NDI methods, Giant Magneto-resistive (GMR) sensor based eddy current methods have shown a much better sensitivity (20–50 times) for a...
