Ecosystem Service Valuation along Landscape Transformation in Central Ethiopia

چکیده

Land degradation and discontinuation of ecosystem services (ES) are a common phenomenon that causes socio-economic environmental problems in Ethiopia. However, dearth information is known about how ES changing from the past to future with regard land use cover (LULC) changes. This study aimed at estimating values based on LULC changes central Maximum likelihood classifier cellular automata-artificial neuron network (CA-ANN) models integrate module for change evaluation (MOLUSE) were used classify predict LULC. The CA-ANN model learning validation was employed 2031 2051. Following detection prediction, total estimated using benefit transfer method. Results revealed forests, wetlands, grazing lands, shrub-bush-woodlands, water bodies reduced by 9755 ha (37%), 4092 (38.4%), 21,263 (81%), 63,161 (25.7%), 905 (1%), respectively, between 1986 2021. Similarly, shrub-bush will experience decline 1.5%, 0.5%, 2.6%, 19.6%, 0.1%, respectively. Meanwhile, cultivated bare-lands, built-up areas an increase US$58.3 85.4 million period 1986–2021 1986–2051. Food production biological control value increased while 15 other decreased throughout periods. Proper policy strategic actions, including enforcement laws natural ecosystems protection, afforestation, restoration, conservation practices, recommended be undertaken enhance multiple provision.

Evaluating the Correlation Between Pollination Ecosystem Service and Landscape Pattern metrics (Case Study: Qazvin Province)

Pollination is an ecological service with high economic values related to human and ecological wellbeing. This study aims to evaluate the correlation between landscape complexity and pollination service (bee) in Qazvin province at the landscape scale. Landscape pattern metrics (Number of Patches (NP), Patch Richness (PR), Edge Density (ED), and Shannon Index (H)), as a proxy of landscape comple...

Landscape composition and configuration in the central highlands of Ethiopia

Landscape dynamics are common phenomenon in the human-dominated environments whereby it can be observed that the composition and configuration between landscape elements change over time. This dynamism brings about habitat loss and fragmentation that can greatly alter ecosystem services at patch, class, and landscape levels. We conducted a study to examine composition and configuration of fores...

Ecosystem service trade-offs and synergies misunderstood without landscape history

Dramatic changes in ecosystem services have motivated recent work characterizing their interactions, including identifying trade-offs and synergies. Although time is arguably implicit in these ideas of trade-offs and synergies (e.g., temporal dynamics or changes in ecosystem services), such interactions are routinely inferred based on the spatial relationships among ecosystem services alone (e....

Economic Valuation of Ecosystem Service in the Middle Basin of Heihe River, Northwest China

The ecosystem service concept is becoming more and more acknowledged in science and decision-making. Taking an economic valuation approach, we quantified the economic value change of ecosystem services for different land use types in the middle basin of Heihe River, Northwest China. Eight ecosystem services indicators were selected: raw materials production, crop production, gas regulation, hyd...
