چکیده

The JJI VLF (22.2 kHz) transmitter signal received at two low-latitude stations, one in Port Vila (geog. coord., 17.73°S, 168.33°E), Vanuatu and other Suva (18.14°S, 178.44°E), Fiji, was analyzed for any changes due to 16 Earthquakes (EQs) with magnitudes 5.5 7.7, during 2018 (JJI-Vanuatu path, 6.8 Mm) 2007 (JJI-Suva 7.5 Mm). amplitude analysis included terminator time (TT), average daytime nighttime variation, fluctuation, mother Morlet wavelet methods. Out of EQs only eleven have shown subionospheric including the decrease about 2–8 h on EQ day, unusual shifts TT up 5–9 min, 1–1.5 dB 1–5 dB, respectively, mainshock day EQs. dA(t) < 0 condition observed 4–5 days before which stabilized after 3–4 from day. A non-normalized normalized trend below -2σ (standard deviation) mark found an increase NF dispersion above +2σ seismic activity found. Mother associated showed a strong enhanced presence short frequency (∼0.05–0.10 mHz) wave-like signatures, few prior, EQ, as compared normal days.

Subionospheric VLF measurements of the effects of geomagnetic storms on the mid-latitude D-region

We examine the effects on the mid-latitude D-region of two geomagnetic storms, the "Halloween storm" of late October 2003 and the 07 April 2000 storm, by means of the associated perturbations of several subionospheric VLF/LF signals propagating in both the northern and southern hemispheres. We use VLF/LF nighttime data from the Holographic Array for Ionospheric/Lightning Research (HAIL), locate...

VLF-LF radio signals collected at Bari (South Italy): a preliminary analysis on signal anomalies associated with earthquakes

At the beginning of 2002 an OmniPAL receiver was put into operation at the Department of Physics of Bari University (Southern Italy). The electric field strength of five VLF-LF signals transmitted from United Kingdom (f=16 kHz), France (f=20.9 kHz), Germany (f=23.4 kHz), Iceland (f=37.5 kHz) and Italy (f=54 kHz) has been monitoring with a 5 s sampling frequency. In a first step we reduced the a...

Some unusual discrete VLF emissions observed at a low-latitude ground station at Agra

A detailed analysis of the VLF emissions data obtained during occasional whistler campaigns at the low-latitude ground station Agra (geomagnetic latitude 17°1¢ N, L = 1.15) has yielded some unusual discrete VLF emissions of the rising type. These include (1) emissions occurring at time intervals increasing in geommetrical progression, (2) emissions occuring simultaneously in di€erent frequency ...

VLF/LF Radio Sounding of Ionospheric Perturbations Associated with Earthquakes

It is recently recognized that the ionosphere is very sensitive to seismic effects, and the detection of ionospheric perturbations associated with earthquakes, seems to be very promising for short-term earthquake prediction. We have proposed a possible use of VLF/LF (very low frequency (3-30 kHz) /low frequency (30-300 kHz)) radio sounding of the seismo-ionospheric perturbations. A brief histor...

Thermal radiation anomalies associated with major earthquakes

29 Recent developments of remote sensing methods for Earth satellite data analysis 30 contribute to our understanding of earthquake related thermal anomalies. It was realized 31 that the thermal heat fluxes over areas of earthquake preparation is a result of air 32 ionization by radon (and other gases) and consequent water vapor condensation on newly 33 formed ions. Latent heat (LH) is released...
