چکیده
Abstract The stability evaluation of the dams subjected to seismic excitations is really very complex as earthquake response concrete gravity dam depends upon its connection joints with foundation rock. This study presents considering welded contact and friction along dam-foundation rock interface. Friction provided using elements. Two-dimensional finite element model Oued Fodda dam, located in Chlef at northwestern part Algeria, used for this purpose. Nonlinear analyses system are performed ANSYS software. reservoir water modeled added mass Westergaard approach. Druker-Prager employed nonlinear analysis concrete. surface-to-surface elements based on Coulomb's law describe friction. These use a target surface form pair. According study, when considered joints, sliding displacement base occurs decreases deformation response; principal stresses body shear force both heel toe dam.

Wavelet-based Analysis for Pulse Period of Earthquake Ground-motions
Pulse period of earthquake records has been known as a key parameter in seismology and earthquake engineering. This paper presents a detailed characterization of this parameter for a special class of earthquake records called pulse-like ground motions. This type of motions often resulting from directivity effects is characterized by a strong pulse in the velocity time history of motion, in norm...

In this research, a deep explosion in the reservoir of a concrete gravity dam has simulated by the coupled Euler –Lagrange finite element method. The validity of explosion hydrodynamics pressure has compared with Taylor empirical formula. The surface sloshing not considered due to deep explosion. The dam and its retained water excited by detonating large explosive charges in deep water upstrea...

In present study, the effect of reservoir length on seismic performance of concrete gravity dam has been investigated. Monte Carlo probabilistic analysis has been used to achieve a sensitivity of the responses to variation of truncated reservoir length in finite element model. The ANSYS software based on finite element method is applied for modeling and analysis. The Pine Flat dam in California...
متن کاملNonlinear Analysis of Concrete Gravity Dams by Neural Networks
Multi-layer neural networks have been used in this paper for modeling nonlinear behaviour of concrete gravity dams under earthquake excitation. Koyna dam which has been studied extensively by other authors in the past has been studied as test example in this paper too, where the nonlinear response of its crest has been modelled by the proposed algorithm. The main steps of the algorithm are as f...
متن کاملConcrete Gravity Dams and Traveling Wave Effect along Reservoir Bottom
In the present article, effect of non-uniform excitation of reservoir bottom on nonlinear response of concrete gravity dams is considered. Anisotropic damage mechanics approach is used to model nonlinear behavior of mass concrete in 2D space. The tallest monolith of Pine Flat dam is selected as a case study. The horizontal and vertical components of 1967 Koyna earthquake is used to excite the s...
