Early Jurassic and Late Cretaceous magmatism on Horseshoe Island, Antarctic Peninsula: New U-Pb and microstructural data

نویسندگان

چکیده

Early Jurassic U-Pb age is obtained for both foliated and undeformed granites on Horseshoe Island, Antarctic Peninsula. Some microstructures in the granites/orthogneisses indicate high-temperature greenschist or low- to medium-temperature amphibolite facies deformation conditions. Additionally, a Late Cretaceous yielded gabbro intruding deformed granitoids.

U-Pb and Pb-Pb age constraints on Paleoproterozoic magmatism, deformation and gold mineralization in the Omai area, Guyana Shield

The Omai intrusion-centred Au-quartz vein system, the largest Au producer presently operating in the Guyana Shield, was sampled for detailed U-Pb and Pb-Pb geochronology and petrological investigation. The age of a metavolcanic/sub-volcanic unit in the host rock sequence is 212092 Ma. Zircon analyses from the main body dioritic rocks give U-Pb ages of 209496, 2092911 and 2096+11/−10 Ma. Magmati...

New Carcharhiniform Sharks (Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii) from the Early to Middle Eocene of Seymour Island, Antarctic Peninsula

Seymour Island, Antarctic Peninsula, is known for its wealth of fossil remains. This island provides one of the richest fossiliferous Paleogene sequences in the world. Chondrichthyans seemingly dominate this Eocene marine fauna and offer a rare insight into high-latitude faunas during the Palaeogene. So far, only a few isolated teeth of carcharhinid sharks have been reported from Seymour Island...

DETRITAL ZIRCON U/Pb AGE DETERMINATION: UNDERSTANDING THE PROVENANCE OF THE LATE- CRETACEOUS SHUMAGIN FORMATION, ALASKA

The Chugach-Prince William (CPW) terrane is an Upper Cretaceous to Eocene accretionary complex exposed for ~2200 km in southern Alaska, extending from Baranof Island in the east to Sanak Island in the west. One of the thickest subduction-related accretionary complexes in the world, the CPW terrane is composed of deep-water flysch and associated volcanic rocks and is intruded by near-trench plut...

Brachiopods from Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous hydrocarbon seep deposits, central Spitsbergen, Svalbard.

Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous (Late Volgian-latest Ryazanian) rhynchonellate brachiopods are described from eight out of 15 hydrocarbon seep deposits in the Slottsmøya Member of the Agardhfjellet Formation in the Janusfjellet to Knorringfjellet area, central Spitsbergen, Svalbard. The fauna comprises rhynchonellides, terebratulides (terebratuloids and loboidothyridoids) and a terebratellidine....
