Early diagnosis of Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in infants provides a critical opportunity to strengthen follow-up HIV- exposed children using dried blood spots and assure early access antiretroviral treatment for infected children. This study aimed determine the prevalence HVI-1 infection born HIV-seropositive mothers. infant HIV sub-type I was carried out on 286 babies HIV-I seropositive mothers attending Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja - Kogi State, Nigeria, between months July December, 2013. Data obtained analyzed Gene Amp PCR System 9700. The overall rate vertical transmission from their 14.5%. High rates 63.5%was seen whose could not get any form interventions with least either took HAART or were one ARV other (0 – 1.0%). Babies who nevirapine as prophylaxis after delivery had lower (1%) transmission.
