Early-age characterisation of Portland cement by impedance spectroscopy

چکیده
Alternating current impedance spectroscopy (ACIS) was used to assess the effect of different sand, anhydrite and water contents on electrochemical response Portland cement paste in early stages hydration. Potential factors that may affect measurements data interpretation are also discussed, such as complexity chemical composition cement, its physical properties hydration kinetics, technique limitations. The obtained were benchmarked against supporting techniques literature data, showing a strong relationship among rates determined by thermochemistry, setting time approaches, pore fluid chemistry, electrical conductivity observed behaviour. results demonstrate ACIS is sensitive for assessing hydration, enabling differentiation changes content, degree microstructural development during first 24 h after mixing.

Freezing of water in portland cement paste - an ac impedance spectroscopy study
The freezing of water in Portland cement paste was investigated using a.c. impedance spectroscopy techniques. Length change and impedance measurements on cooling and warming were obtained simultaneously using a specially designed coupling technique. A new descriptor of frost resistance is described in terms of the high frequency arc depression angle in the impedance plane. Curves of the depress...
متن کاملMonitoring of Early Age Portland Cement Paste: Optical and RF Approach
In this paper, we describe the monitoring of Portand cement paste, with a 0.50 water cement ratio (w/c), during early age period, recurring to optical and electrical techniques. The optical monitoring of the cement paste was realized with FBG temperature sensors, and the temperature variations during the early age period were characterized. The RF values of the cement paste and therefore predic...
متن کاملEarly Age Properties of Portland Cement Pastes Investigated with Ultrasonic Shear Waves and Numerical Simulation
In this paper, the correlation of reflection loss measured by an ultrasonic shear wave reflection method and the microstructure in cement-based material is investigated. Three cement pastes (Portland cement type I) with different water-cement ratios (0.35, 0.50 and 0.60) cured at 25 °C were examined. The ultrasonic shear wave reflection factor (WRF) was measured by the wave reflection technique...
متن کاملIce nucleation by ordinary Portland cement
Portland cement was studied for its nucleating ability by the freezing behaviour exhibited of drops produced from aqueous suspension of Portland cement vis-a-vis of drops produced from suspensions of AgI, 2AgI.NaI and PbI,. I t is revealing to note that, at temperature colder than 5"C, Portland cement is as potent an ice nucleant as is either 2AgIaNaI or PbI,. At temperatures approaching 5"C, P...
