Dysregulated Metabolism in Cancer

چکیده
Metabolism describes the cellular bioenergetic pathways that provide energy and macromolecules for protein, lipid, nucleic acid syntheses. In cancer, malignant cells alter metabolic to acquire nutrients needed proliferation survival. The various modifications exhibited by cancer include aerobic glycolysis, decreased oxidative phosphorylation, elevated production of biosynthetic intermediates. To support increasing need these modifications, increase expressions plasma membrane transporters enzymes involved in pathways. Additionally, some escape chemotherapy treatment reprogramming their activities. This chemotherapy-induced resistance mechanism allows promote survival as well defense against cell damage engaging shunt Therefore, understanding may useful information can further be exploited strategize potential interventions subsequently foster better outcomes among patients with cancer.

The Role of Dysregulated Glucose Metabolism in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecologic cancer and also one of the most poorly understood. Other health issues that are affecting women with increasing frequency are obesity and diabetes, which are associated with dysglycemia and increased blood glucose. The Warburg Effect describes the ability of fast-growing cancer cells to preferentially metabolize glucose via anaerobi...
متن کاملDysregulated metabolism contributes to oncogenesis.
Cancer is a disease characterized by unrestrained cellular proliferation. In order to sustain growth, cancer cells undergo a complex metabolic rearrangement characterized by changes in metabolic pathways involved in energy production and biosynthetic processes. The relevance of the metabolic transformation of cancer cells has been recently included in the updated version of the review "Hallmark...
متن کاملDysregulated metabolism and the regulation of aromatase in breast adipose stromal cells in obesity and cancer
Background The risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women is increased two-fold with obesity, and the majority of breast tumours that arise are oestrogen-dependent. After menopause, when the ovaries cease to produce oestrogens, it is the local production of oestrogens within the breast adipose stromal cells (ASCs) which promotes and sustains tumour growth. This is largely due to the increase...
متن کاملOvercoming trastuzumab resistance in breast cancer by targeting dysregulated glucose metabolism.
Trastuzumab shows remarkable efficacy in treatment of ErbB2-positive breast cancers when used alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutics. However, acquired resistance develops in most treated patients, necessitating alternate treatment strategies. Increased aerobic glycolysis is a hallmark of cancer and inhibition of glycolysis may offer a promising strategy to preferentially kill can...
متن کاملDysregulated glutathione metabolism links to impaired insulin action in adipocytes.
Oxidative stress plays an important role in obesity-related metabolic diseases. Glutathione peroxidase (GPX) is an antioxidant enzyme downregulated in adipose tissue of obese mice. However, the role of GPX in adipocytes remains elusive. The objective of this study was to clarify the pathophysiological changes in GPX activity and glutathione metabolism and their roles in the pathogenesis of insu...
