چکیده

Various factors can be responsible for the flow of incompressible fluid under gravity. Torricelli's theorem gives relationship between efflux velocity an incompressible, gravity-driven from orifice and height liquid above it. The concept original derivation Torricelli’s is limited in application because certain inherent assumptions method derivation. An alternate use Bernoulli’s principle. However, its result tends towards only with some assumptions. In this study, assumption was incorporated into conventional to obtain amended equation. This study also considers a more general approach principle, which eliminate limitations. involves theoretical construction bottom reservoir that opened atmospheric pressure. equation, continuity applied open flow. derived equations are used analyze prerequisite conditions vertical system variables affect rate. It assumed steady, inviscid, has one inlet port exit port. Findings show surface area ratio discharge upstream, neglected convectional Torricelli velocity, influence significantly. shows high augment established decreased height.

Drag Reduction by Surfactant Solutions in Gravity Driven Flow Systems

Efflux time measurements are carried out for gravity draining of a liquid from a large cylindrical tank (where the flow is essentially laminar) through single exit pipe in the absence and presence of Cetyl Pyridinium Chloride (CPC) surfactant solutions. The variables considered are initial height of liquid in the tank, dia. of tank, length of the exit pipe and concentration of surfactant. T...

Drag Reduction by Anionic Surfactant Solutions in Gravity Driven Flow System

This paper presents efflux time experiments performed in the absence and presence of aqueous solutions of Drag Reducing Agents (DRAs) when a liquid is emptied from a large open cylindrical storage tank through an exit piping system. The drag reducing agents studied are Dodecyl benzene sulfonate anionic surfactant and a mixed solution of surfactant and sodium chloride counter ion. The variab...

The Quasi-Steady State Assumption in an Enzymatically Open System

The quasi-steady state assumption (QSSA) forms the basis for rigorous mathematical justification of the Michaelis-Menten formalism commonly used in modeling a broad range of intracellular phenomena. A critical supposition of QSSA-based analyses is that the underlying biochemical reaction is enzymatically “closed,” so that free enzyme is neither added to nor removed from the reaction over the re...

Inviscid Compressible Flow in Meridional Plane of an Axial Flow Compressor

In this paper it is attempted to investigate the behavior of an inviscid flow in the meridional plane of an axial flow compressor. For this purpose the 3-D unsteady Euler equations in cylindrical coordinate are averaged in tangential direction. Therefore, the equations are reduced to a 2-D system. By averaging the tangential component of momentum equation, a blade force will result. Axial and r...
