Dynamics and Elastic Properties of Glassy Metastable States

By a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method which ensures the system will be under hydrostatic pressure, dynamic and elastic properties of glassy metatstable states are investigated. In MD method, cell fluctuates not only in volume but also shape constant pressure temperature. As observed experiments for many glass forming materials, metastable our show sharp increase mean-square-displacement at certain temperatures TD. Dynamic heterogeneity is Elastic calculated from stress strain relations obtained spontaneous fluctuation internal tensor parameters. Each investigated state shows distinctive while maintaining solid-like properties. The stay intact even above It has been shown that rigidity mobility compatible heterogeneity.

A recently developed spectral method for identifying metastable states in Markov chains is used to analyze the conformational dynamics of a four-residue peptide valine-proline-alanine-leucine. We compare our results to empirically defined conformational states and show that the found metastable states correctly reproduce the conformational dynamics of the system.
