Dynamic offer generation in airline revenue management

چکیده

The New Distribution Capability and new retailing platforms will enable airlines to respond shopping requests with bundled offers of flights ancillary services, representing an evolution from traditional, flight-focused optimization. Assembling attractive set display customers therefore represents a joint pricing assortment optimization problem in airline revenue management. In this paper, we introduce initial approach for the selection la carte flight offers. First, propose customer choice model that captures impact bundles on itinerary choice. We then calculate prices each offer continuous range price points maximizes expected given segment. illustrate using single-flight, single-ancillary base case discuss extensions more complex environments. Tests Passenger Origin–Destination Simulator (PODS) show dynamic generation (DOG) can increase net when used by one or competitive network, assuming are able accurately segment incoming estimate average willingness-to-pay find majority gains DOG due effects component offer. bundling mechanism is secondary source gain be realized take services into account choosing flight. Our results provide insight practitioners implementing systems processes. For example, line previous literature bundle pricing, transparent distribution channels service should valuation high its marginal cost provision low. close discussing strategic managerial implications move traditional strategies next-generation, offer-focused approach.

Dynamic Revenue Management in Airline Alliances

Major airlines are selling increasing numbers of interline itineraries, in which flights operated by two or more airlines are combined and sold together. One reason for this increase is the rapid growth of airline alliances, which promote the purchase of interline itineraries and therefore virtually extend the reach of each alliance member’s network. This practice, however, creates a difficult ...

Pricing substitutable flights in airline revenue management

We develop a Markov decision process formulation of a dynamic pricing problem for multiple substitutable flights between the same origin and destination, taking into account customer choice among the flights. The model is rendered computationally intractable for exact solution by its multidimensional state and action spaces, so we develop and analyze various bounds and heuristics. We first desc...

Stochastic Comparisons in Airline Revenue Management

C two markets of different sizes but similar costs and fare structure. All other things being equal, is an airline’s expected revenue larger in the market with larger demand? If not, under what circumstances is it possible to compare expected revenues without carrying out a detailed analysis? In this article, we provide answers to these questions by studying the relationship between the optimal...

AIRLINE STOCHASTIC CAPACITY ALLOCATION BY APPLYING REVENUE MANAGEMENT

To formulate a single-leg seat inventory control problem in an airline ticket sales system, the concept and techniques of revenue management are applied in this research. In this model, it is assumed the cabin capacity is stochastic and hence its exact size cannot be forecasted in advance, at the time of planning. There are two groups of early-reserving and late-purchasing customers demanding t...
