Duodenal angiodysplasia: a case report

Abstract Background Angiodysplasia (AD) is an abnormal, ectatic dilated, tortuous blood vessel that found in the mucosa and submucosa of gastro-intestinal tract (GIT). While colonic angiodysplasia a recognized finding lower intestinal elderly, small rare. However, it important reason GIT bleeding so its detection proper management can be challenge. It should considered among differential diagnosis scenario mild or intermittent bleedings obscure cause. Case presentation A 71-year-old woman was presented to our emergency department with hypovolemic shock due bleeding, she suffering melena severe anemia. The revision past medical history revealed hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic renal disease. After stabilization, underwent abdominal computed tomography (CT) which abnormal vascular lesion along anterior posterior wall 2nd part duodenum. appeared as blush contrast arterial phase (representing dilated mucosal capillaries draining into submucosal vein) suggestive (duodenal angiodysplasia). patient transferred undergo angiogram confirmed duodenal angiodysplasia. Super selective cannulation feeding artery performed followed by post coiling successful embolization. No acute complications were encountered during immediately after procedure. Conclusion AD rare but cause especially older patients. looked for CT angiography done such clinical situation. Superselective coil embolization safe effective technique manage bowel AD.
