Dry Hard Turning versus Grinding—The Influence of Machining-Induced Surface Integrity on Fatigue Performance

Dry hard turning (DHT) provides an effective process for finishing high-hardness materials. Machining-induced surface integrity has a direct impact on functional performance. This study compares the effects of DHT and grinding processes machining-induced fatigue performance 18CrNiMo7-6 steel. The experiment were carried out by using polycrystalline cubic boron nitride tool corundum wheel, respectively. 3D morphology, roughness, residual stress, machining accuracy hourglass-shaped specimen measured. fracture was characterized scanning electron microscopy. experimental results show that compared to grinding, obtained larger compressive stress (the maximum axial tangent stresses are −762.6 MPa −442.8 MPa, respectively) lower roughness minimum Ra Rq 0.172 μm 0.230 μm, respectively). is attempt use instead finish steel, providing reference high-quality sustainable manufacturing hardened
