Drug utilization patterns in pediatric population in tertiary care hospital – an observational study

Objective: This observational study aimed to investigate the drug utilization patterns in pediatric population at a tertiary care hospital. Methodology: The structured questionnaire was specially designed including demographic profiles, illness history, prescription regimen of group patients. Data were collected from medical records and prescriptions patients who visited hospital (starting date) (end date). analyzed diagnosed condition medication usage trends among recruited Results: A total 320 (75% OPD 18% IPD) children department analyzed; with an age between 0 1 year (42%) 2 (32%). Among participants, males (51.2%) females (48.8%). observed significant uses drugs prescribed for fever (52%), acute diarrhea (48%), respiratory diseases (24.5%), gastrointestinal disorders (17.3%), infectious (15.6%). Most commonly paracetamol syrup phenylephrine zinc (41%), oral rehydration solution (44%), vitamin (46%), levocetirizine (25%), antibiotics (34%). widely antibiotic Cephalosporins. Other medicines domperidone, ondansetron, diazepam, etc. Conclusion: provided valuable insights into patterns, prescribing medications, adherence guidelines potential areas improvement healthcare.
