DRUG-INDUCED OTOTOXICITY. AMINOGLYCOSIDE OTOTOXICITY

چکیده
In modern clinical practice, there are often cases of cochleovestibular disorders induced by the use drugs. The term "drug-induced ototoxicity" is directly related to introduction streptomycin in medical practice and means ability drugs or chemicals cause functional degeneration internal ear structures: sensory-epithelial (hair) cells organ Corti, neurons eighth cranial nerve (nervus vestibulocochlearis) auditory centers brain. These injuries can be temporary permanent.

Prevention and modulation of aminoglycoside ototoxicity (Review).
More than 60 years after their isolation and characterization, aminoglycoside (AG) antibiotics remain powerful agents in the treatment of severe gram-negative, enterococcal or mycobacterial infections. However, the clinical use of AGs is hampered by nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, which often develop as a consequence of prolonged courses of therapy, or of administration of increased doses of th...
متن کاملAn energy-dependent step in aminoglycoside ototoxicity: prevention of gentamicin ototoxicity during reduced endolymphatic potential.
Guinea pigs received a bolus of gentamicin (10 mM for 5 min) by perilymphatic perfusion which normally led to an irreversible loss of the cochlear microphonic potential (CM). Various experimental conditions that reduced the endolymphatic potential (EP) were then superimposed on the gentamicin application. Reversible reductions in EP (and, concomitantly, in CM) were induced by asphyxia (3 min), ...
متن کامل[An in vitro rapid evaluation of drug-induced ototoxicity and of reductive effect of calcium on aminoglycoside ototoxicity using organ culture].
The ototoxicity of aminoglycoside and anticancer platinum drug was analysed using an organ culture system. The effect of calcium antagonism on aminoglycoside ototoxicity was investigated by the same system. The inner ears of mice, 16-day embryos, were cultured for 5 days with or without gentamicin (GM) or kanamycin (KM) or streptomycin (SM), or ribostamycin (RSM), including 1, 10, 100, or 1000 ...
متن کاملMechanisms of Aminoglycoside Ototoxicity and Targets of Hair Cell Protection
Aminoglycosides are commonly prescribed antibiotics with deleterious side effects to the inner ear. Due to their popular application as a result of their potent antimicrobial activities, many efforts have been undertaken to prevent aminoglycoside ototoxicity. Over the years, understanding of the antimicrobial as well as ototoxic mechanisms of aminoglycosides has increased. These mechanisms are ...
