چکیده
Aim of study: To determine the response high-altitudinal forests to seasonal drought.Area Monte Tláloc, Estado de México and Rancho Joyas del Durazno, Municipality Río Verde, San Luis Potosí, México.Materials methods: In this study, we evaluate drought hydroclimate in two young Mexican conifers sampled at high elevation, correlating records tree-ring growth Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI).Main results: The results show that Pinus teocote Abies religiosa are vulnerable precipitation regime warm conditions winter-spring. physiological mechanisms seem be differentiated between species, according effects stress. NDVI demonstrated different temporal responses species their inherent hydroclimatic limitations. This differentiation can attributed spatial variation present particular physical geographic each area. dry climates reveal P. A. conditions. However, further evaluation resistance resilience these is necessary, as well disentanglement associated influence predicted processes extinction or migration.Research highlights: These importance given climatic scenarios for elevated ecotones. Tree-ring widths improved radial climate, enhancing our understanding forest dynamics. variability depends on species. Keywords: High elevation; tree-ring; ENSO; NDVI; climate-growth relationship. Modeling Young Stand Development towards the Old-Growth Reference Condition in Evergreen Mixed-Conifer Stands at Headwaters Forest Reserve, California
We sought to answer the question: How do we restore characteristics of old-growth evergreen mixed-conifer forests in young even-aged stands on upland terrain at Headwaters Forest Reserve (HFR)? We described the old-growth reference condition for three stands at HFR. In each old-growth stand, trees within a 1-ha plot were inventoried. We found coast Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menzie...
متن کاملQuantification of monoterpene emission sources of a conifer species in response to experimental drought
Monoterpene (MT) emissions of conifer tree species, emitted from de novo synthesis and storage pools, play an important role in plant ecology and physiology. During drought stress both emission sources are affected differently and with conventional measuring techniques they are difficult to separate. We investigated 13C labelled MT emission of eight 3-year-old Scots pine seedlings in a drought ...

متن کاملDifferential drought tolerance in tree populations from contrasting elevations
To predict the ecological consequences of climate change for a widely distributed tree species, it is essential to develop a deep understanding of the ecophysiological responses of populations from contrasting climates to varied soil water availabilities. In the present study, we focused on Pinus tabuliformis, one of the most economically and ecologically important tree species in China. In a g...
متن کاملNitrogen Addition Enhances Drought Sensitivity of Young Deciduous Tree Species
Understanding how trees respond to global change drivers is central to predict changes in forest structure and functions. Although there is evidence on the mode of nitrogen (N) and drought (D) effects on tree growth, our understanding of the interplay of these factors is still limited. Simultaneously, as mixtures are expected to be less sensitive to global change as compared to monocultures, we...
