Droplets Generation using Soluble Polymeric and Surfactant Additives in a Micro-Flow System: An Experimental Approach

In the present work, polymer and surfactant solutions (Xanthan Gum- Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) were formulated tested in a micro-flow system (microchannel) carrying octanoic acid as hydrocarbon phase to determine droplets formation capabilities of two different additives. The purpose is compare droplet-generated size, shape, distance between forming from individual additives solutions. jetting phenomenon that happens during droplet generation was also investigated. solution (XG) (CTAB) prepared 5 concentrations (50, 100, 150, 200, 250) ppm (500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500) ppm, respectively. continuous dispersed phases' flow controlled by controlling inlet pressure both phases. Direct-writing lithography used fabricate microchannels using polydimethylsiloxane polymer. microfluidic chip connected an open-loop fluid circulation system, produced size recorded high-resolution microscope. generated XG larger, shorter concentration increased. contrast, CTAB showed smaller droplets, increased possibility coalescence higher shorter. terms regime, ratio increases, jet breakup length increases before until, at some limit, failed generate droplets.
