Drinking the Winds: Monsoon as Atmospheric Spring

چکیده

This paper explores monsoons as a set of atmospheric-orographic dynamics productive water resources and site actionable concern for landscape practice. From study to representation design, the term “landscape practice” is used describe way positioning environments both subject object concern. While are constituents many geographies, dynamics, materials experiences, this focuses on South Asian monsoon its relationship with Tibetan Plateau. In region, freshwater dependent monsoon; however, rising global temperatures rapid urban development significantly impact behavior Plateau’s ability store freshwater, monsoon—as kinetic body freshwater—becomes focal point visual media productions extractive technologies that require shifting perspective from one privileges land centers atmosphere. The inclusion meteorological atmospheric material within space practice, constructively challenges spatial discipline’s engagement exploitable resources; provides tangible conditions in urgent need exploration.

The abrupt onset of the modern South Asian Monsoon winds

The South Asian Monson (SAM) is one of the most intense climatic elements yet its initiation and variations are not well established. Dating the deposits of SAM wind-driven currents in IODP cores from the Maldives yields an age of 12. 9 Ma indicating an abrupt SAM onset, over a short period of 300 kyrs. This coincided with the Indian Ocean Oxygen Minimum Zone expansion as revealed by geochemica...

Atmospheric Scattering Effects on Ground-based Measurements of Thermospheric Winds

Inherent in observations of thermospheric winds from the ground with the Fabry-Perot interferometer is the assumption that the measured Doppler shift is a property ofthe source medium viewed by the instrumental line of sight. However, ground based airglow observations in regions of weak airglow emission near large intensity gradients may be contaminated by scattered light. Light from areas wher...

Atmospheric Acoustic Interferometer Tomography of Temperature and Winds

A technique is described for multiple-path propagation time measurements in the surface layer of the atmosphere. This is based on solving simple bi-directional ray tracing equations on successively higher penetrating paths using propagation times for a short acoustic pulse. The scattering process from turbulence is shown to be capable of providing signals from which phase comparisons can be mad...
