Double band inversion in the topological phase transition of Ge1-x Snx alloys

چکیده

We use first-principles simulation and virtual crystal approximation to reveal the unique double band inversion topological phase transition in Ge1-xSnx alloys. Wavefunction parity, spatial charge distribution surface state spectrum analyses suggest that is relayed by its first valence band. As system evolves from Ge {\alpha}-Sn, conduction moves down, inverts with second bands consecutively. The makes nontrivial, while one does not change invariant of system. Both inversions yield modes spanning individual inverted gaps, but only mode upper gap associates nontrivial nature tensile-strained {\alpha}-Sn.

A SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF THE OPTICAL AND ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES OF Ge1-ySny AND Ge1-x-ySixSny SEMICONDUCTOR ALLOYS DISSERTATION

Silicon is very well known for its electronic device applications, but Si-based microelectronics will eventually reach their ultimate physical size and technological limits. In order to overcome these limitations and to broaden the role of Si technology into the realm of optical signal generation and processing, an intensive research effort has been made. As a result, a significant breakthrough...

Topological Quantum Phase Transition and 3D Texture Inversion in a Tunable Topological Insulator

The recently discovered three dimensional or bulk topological insulators are expected to exhibit exotic quantum phenomena. It is believed that a trivial insulator can be twisted into a topological state by modulating the spin-orbit interaction or the crystal lattice via odd number of band inversions, driving the system through a topological quantum phase transition. By directly measuring the to...

Observation of a topological crystalline insulator phase and topological phase transition in Pb(1-x)Sn(x)Te.

A topological insulator protected by time-reversal symmetry is realized via spin-orbit interaction-driven band inversion. The topological phase in the Bi(1-x)Sb(x) system is due to an odd number of band inversions. A related spin-orbit system, the Pb(1-x)Sn(x)Te, has long been known to contain an even number of inversions based on band theory. Here we experimentally investigate the possibility ...

Topological-metal to band-insulator transition in (Bi(1-x)In(x))2Se3 thin films.

By combining transport and photoemission measurements on (Bi(1-x)In(x))(2)Se(3) thin films, we report that this system transforms from a topologically nontrivial metal into a topologically trivial band insulator through three quantum phase transitions. At x ≈ 3%-7%, there is a transition from a topologically nontrivial metal to a trivial metal. At x ≈ 15%, the metal becomes a variable-range-hop...
