Dose response to post-ruminal urea in lactating dairy cattle

چکیده
Inclusion of urea in dairy cattle diets is often limited by negative effects high levels feed on dry matter intake (DMI) and efficiency rumen N utilization. We hypothesized that supplying post-ruminally would mitigate these limitations allow greater inclusion diets. Four rumen-fistulated Holstein-Friesian cows (7 ± 2.1 lactations, 110 30.8 d milk; mean standard deviation) were randomly assigned to a 4 × Latin square design examine DMI, milk production composition, digestibility, fermentation, balance, plasma constituents response continuously infused the abomasum (0, 163, 325, 488 g/d). Urea doses targeted linearly increase crude protein (CP) content total DMI (diet plus infusion) 0, 2, 4, 6% equated 0.7, 1.4, 2.1% expected respectively. Each 28-d infusion period consisted 7-d dose step-up period, 14 adaptation, measurement period. The diet was fed ad libitum as mixed ration [10.9% CP, 42.5% corn silage, 3.5% grass hay, wheat straw, 50.5% concentrate (dry basis)] formulated meet 100, 82, 53% net energy, metabolizable protein, rumen-degradable requirements, Linear, quadratic, cubic assessed using polynomial regression assuming fixed effect treatment random cow. Dry energy-corrected yield responded quadratically dose, increased with increasing dose. Apparent total-tract digestibility CP ruminal NH3-N concentration Mean VFA not affected proportion excreted feces decreased urine Urinary excretion Microbial flow cubically but microbial synthesis affected. Plasma Regression analysis estimates when supplemented top low-CP diet, 179 g/d post-ruminal maximize at 23.4 kg/d, corresponding dietary level 0.8% which line current recommendations for Overall, results indicate delivery does depression increases.

Plasma and milk urea nitrogen in relation to pregnancy rate in lactating dairy cattle.
The objectives of this study were to relate concentrations of plasma (PUN) and milk (MUN) urea nitrogen to pregnancy rate in dairy cows and compare various methods of analysis and preparation of milk for measuring MUN. In two experiments, blood or milk samples were collected on the day of AI from Holstein cows (n = 160 and n = 155, respectively). Three methods of MUN analysis were compared. Two...
متن کاملFeeding Lactating Dairy Cows Proteins Resistant to Ruminal Degradation I
Sixty multiprious Holstein cows were fed treatment diets from 11 to 40 d postpartum with corn silage as the forage. Treatment diets each contained a different supplemental protein: 1) solvent soybean meal; 2) extruded soy product; 3) combination of corn gluten meal and distillers dried grains with solubles; and 4) a combination of protein sources from diets 2 and 3. Covariate adjusted means for...
متن کاملSubacute Ruminal Acidosis in Dairy Cattle
Ruminal acidosis is the consequence of feeding high grain diets to ruminant animals, which are adapted to digest and metabolize predominantly forage diets. Feeding diets that are progressively higher in grain tends to increase milk production, even in diets containing up to 75% concentrates. However, short-term gains in milk production are often substantially or completely negated by long term ...
متن کاملIntegration of ruminal metabolism in dairy cattle.
An important objective is to identify nutrients or dietary factors that are most critical for advancing our knowledge of, and improving our ability to predict, milk protein production. The Dairy NRC (2001) model is sensitive to prediction of microbial protein synthesis, which is among the most important component of models integrating requirement and corresponding supply of metabolizable protei...
متن کاملEffect of a low-moisture buffer block on ruminal pH in lactating dairy cattle induced with subacute ruminal acidosis.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a low-moisture buffer block on ruminal pH and milk production in cows induced with subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA). Sixteen ruminally cannulated cows were randomly assigned to treatment (access to buffer blocks) or control (no buffer blocks). Ruminal pH was recorded each minute; dry matter intake (DMI), milk yield, and milk composition ...
