Dorsal vaginal graft urethroplasty in female urethral stricture: a contemporary series

Abstract Background Bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) is an uncommon entity in women. The incidence only 2.7–8% of women referred for voiding symptoms. It common to treat female urethral strictures by repeated dilatations with subsequent self-intermittent catheterisation, which often leads stricture recurrence. We aim review the technique and outcomes Dorsal vaginal graft Urethroplasty (DVGU) manage females. Methods This study a retrospective chart 24 who underwent dorsal urethroplasty single surgeon. Patients were selected based on history, physical examination, uroflowmetry, calibration, urethroscopy cystourethrography. compared pre- postoperative values variables such as peak flow (Qmax), post-void residual (PVR) self-reporting satisfaction score. Results Mean (range) age patients was 46.54 (38–55) years. mean PVR 6.35 ml/s 148.12 ml/s, respectively. Qmax before after surgery 6.35–25.12 respectively ( p < 0.05). decreased from ml (preoperative) 41.67 (postoperative) Before surgery, calibration size 12.76 F 24.50 F, Self-reported score (Patient Global impression improvement) showed that five (5) scored 1 (very much better), sixteen (16) 2 (much better) three (3) 3 (a little better). Three (12.5%) had Two them got stabilised initial soft dilatation, third required continued self-catheterisation. Overall, success rate 87.5% follow-up 22.62 (12–36) months. Conclusion onlay simple, safe practical approach reasonable rate. can be considered first-line option definitive repair.
