Dopamine: a modulator of circadian rhythms/biological clock

چکیده
Circadian rhythm describes the physical, psychological, and behavioural patterns of living organisms that respond to day night light levels. The important bodily functions like hunger, sleep, gastrointestinal motility, mood, coordination, body temperature, gene transcription, sensory perceptions, sleep-wake cycles hormone release etc are influenced by circadian rhythm. Abnormal may result obesity, depression, diabetes, seasonal affective disorder, bipolar disorders various sleep disorders. neuromodulator dopamine, originate from small groups neurons in mesencephalon (the ventral tegmental area, substantia nigra) diencephalon. In retina, olfactory bulb, striatum, midbrain, hypothalamus, it has been shown have dopamine shows activities, where regulates, clock genes some these areas. Thus, is likely essential mechanisms maintain proper rhythmicity five brain Dopamine receptors located centrally peripherally. Growing evidence involved regulating rhythms, either directly or indirectly, areas through pathways dopaminergic receptor peripherally, plays vital role.

Pituitary adenylyl cyclase-activating peptide: a pivotal modulator of glutamatergic regulation of the suprachiasmatic circadian clock.
The circadian clock in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus organizes behavioral rhythms, such as the sleep-wake cycle, on a near 24-h time base and synchronizes them to environmental day and night. Light information is transmitted to the SCN by direct retinal projections via the retinohypothalamic tract (RHT). Both glutamate (Glu) and pituitary adenylyl cyclase-activating pept...
متن کاملDopamine: A Modulator of Circadian Rhythms in the Central Nervous System
Circadian rhythms are daily rhythms that regulate many biological processes - from gene transcription to behavior - and a disruption of these rhythms can lead to a myriad of health risks. Circadian rhythms are entrained by light, and their 24-h oscillation is maintained by a core molecular feedback loop composed of canonical circadian ("clock") genes and proteins. Different modulators help to m...
متن کاملA minimal circadian clock model.
The coordination of biological activities into daily cycles provides an important advantage for the fitness of diverse organisms. Thereby, an internal circadian oscillator drives gene expression in an approximate 24 hours rhythm. Circadian clocks are found in most eukaryotes. In prokaryotes only cyanobacteria are known to regulate their activities in a circadian rhythm. In vitro experiments sho...
متن کاملThe mammalian circadian clock.
Organisms populating the earth are under the steady influence of daily and seasonal changes resulting from the planet's rotation and orbit around the sun. This periodic pattern most prominently manifested by the light-dark cycle has led to the establishment of endogenous circadian timing systems that synchronize biological functions to the environment. The mammalian circadian system is composed...
متن کاملRod electrical coupling is controlled by a circadian clock and dopamine in mouse retina.
Rod single-photon responses are critical for vision in dim light. Electrical coupling via gap junction channels shapes the light response properties of vertebrate photoreceptors, but the regulation of rod coupling and its impact on the single-photon response have remained unclear. To directly address these questions, we developed a perforated patch-clamp recording technique and recorded from si...
