Dominant Contribution of South Asia Monsoon to External Moisture for Extreme Precipitation Events in Northern Tibetan Plateau

چکیده
Numerous previous studies have pointed out that the South Asia monsoon (SAM) contributes most moisture to southern Tibetan Plateau, whilst over Northern Plateau (NTP) is supplied by westerlies, but sources for extreme precipitation events remain unclear. In this study, tracking of external was performed on ten each six target subregions NTP during summer 2010–2018. We found SAM provided in NTP, except largest contribution from East easternmost subregion. The carried westerly winds second foreign source western NTP. addition, more than 40% occurred under synergy weak westerlies and enhanced SAM, these a longer duration others. Thus, plays key role transport even though its climatological not significant.

Ice-core evidence of westerly and monsoon moisture contributions in the central Tibetan Plateau
Stable isotopes are a primary tool for inferring past temperature changes and atmospheric moisture variability from ice cores. A 33m ice core representing the period 1850–2004 was retrieved from the Tanggula Mountains, central Tibetan Plateau (5743ma.s.l.), in August 2005. Annual average stable isotope (dO, dD) values generally increase during the period, while the second-order parameter of deu...

متن کاملDynamical influence of the Tibetan Plateau on the winter monsoon over southeastern Asia
[1] Previous studies have shown (1) that the Tibetan Plateau produces a significant fraction of the two components of the Equatorial Mountain Torque (EMT) in winter, (2) that these torques are in part related to the East Asian cold surges, and (3) that the cold surges affect the convection over the maritime continent. We show here that these relations are strong enough for the convection over t...
متن کاملPeopling of the northern Tibetan Plateau
Early archaeological investigations on the Tibetan Plateau concluded that this harsh, high-elevation environment was successfully colonized around 30,000 years ago. Genetic studies have tended to support this view on the assumption that the uniquely evolved physiological capacities seen among modern Tibetan populations required long-term exposure to high-elevation selective pressures. Archaeolo...
متن کاملA persistent northern boundary of Indian Summer Monsoon precipitation over Central Asia during the Holocene
Extra-tropical circulation systems impede poleward moisture advection by the Indian Summer Monsoon. In this context, the Himalayan range is believed to insulate the south Asian circulation from extra-tropical influences and to delineate the northern extent of the Indian Summer Monsoon in central Asia. Paleoclimatic evidence, however, suggests increased moisture availability in the Early Holocen...
