Doing transgender ‘right’: Bodies, eroticism and spirituality in <i>khwajasira</i> work

The regulative and oppressive effects of gender norms on bodies transgender workers have been mostly explored in standard binary work settings. We explore the specialized regimes by posing following two questions: how do transgendered regulate bodies? cope with these regimes? Through a case study khwajasiras, community male-to-female people Pakistan, we explain competing conflicting body ideals hyper-eroticism, spirituality, hybridity set regimes, allow khwajasiras to transgress norms. Ironically, however, their own khwajasiras’ work. then demonstrate three different ways: embracing ideals, strategically shifting across relegating as unimportant for being transgender. finally argue that differences enacting form transgenderness is an outcome tight coupling or contradiction between audiences, khwajasira individual workers’ sense authenticity.
