Does the temperature–size rule apply to marine protozoans?

چکیده

The temperature–size rule suggests that there is a negative relationship between the size (volume) of an ectothermic organism and environmental temperature experienced during its development We question how to validate this hypothesis for particular case some algivorous protozoans because in many these unicellular organisms, body directly related consumption prey and, on most occasions, true cell uncertain. In our opinion, approach question, actual protozoan should be measured when are fully digested. To prove arguments, we designed series experiments with heterotrophic dinoflagellate Oxyrrhis marina, including functional numerical responses, time-dependent acclimation responses estimation volume absence food. found after digestion Rhodomonas salina, long-term thermally acclimated strains marina was same regardless (16 22°C). believe previous reports showing reduction might actually reflect imbalances ingestion prey, perhaps amplified by insufficient acclimation. support argument, evidence short-term exposure may suggest well-fed temperature, although not observed light results presented here, supporting sufficiently conclusive present studies largely ignore effect presence grazer's usually based temperature. Does an 80: 20 rule apply to Java coupling?

Objective. To explore whether an 80:20 rule exists in Java from six coupling metrics over multiple versions of open-source software and, if so, whether that relationship is exacerbated over time. Methods. We used the automated tool JHawk to extract the 6 different coupling metrics from four Open-Source Systems. We then ranked the classes on each of these 6 coupling metrics and then analysed the...

When does the cµ rule apply to finite-population queueing systems?

We consider optimal scheduling of the server in a finite-population queueing system with multiple classes of customers, when preemption is allowed. A customer of class i has arrival rate i , service rate i , and holding cost ci per unit time. We derive conditions under which the c rule is optimal. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The 400 microsphere per piece "rule" does not apply to all blood flow studies.

Microsphere experiments are useful in measuring regional organ perfusion as well as heterogeneity of blood flow within organs and correlation of perfusion between organ pieces at different time points. A 400 microspheres/piece "rule" is often used in planning experiments or to determine whether experiments are valid. This rule is based on the statement that 400 microspheres must lodge in a regi...
