Ischemia/reperfusion during normothermic perfusion.
INTRODUCTION Cold storage of organs for preservation and transplantation is reaching its limits especially with extended criteria for heart beating donors and donation after cardiac death. We will discuss recent findings and perspectives in normothermic kidney preservation. METHODS A literature review was performed from original articles and syntheses selected by the search engine PubMed. Key...
متن کاملThe survival benefit of liver transplantation.
Demand for liver transplantation continues to exceed donor organ supply. Comparing recipient survival to that of comparable candidates without a transplant can improve understanding of transplant survival benefit. Waiting list and post-transplant mortality was studied among a cohort of 12 996 adult patients placed on the waiting list between 2001 and 2003. Time-dependent Cox regression models w...
متن کاملLiver Procurement for Orthotopic Transplantation: An Analysis
The incidence of prospective organ donors in the United States and the techniques which are to used to guarantee their optimal use after identification are analyzed. Attitudes of the public and health professionals toward organ donation are discussed. The organization of the Pittsburgh Organ Procurement Agency and its relationship to other such ( agencies is described. Finally, the presently us...
متن کاملAmelioration of normothermic canine liver ischemia with prostacyclin.
A model of hepatic ischemia was developed in dogs using a pump-driven splanchnic-to-jugular vein bypass during crossclamping of the portal triad. An LD50 was established with three hours of ischemia. PGI2 given for one hour before the ischemic insult ameliorated the ischemic injury and increased survival.
متن کاملDonor Gender Does Not Affect Liver Transplantation Outcome in Children
The liver is recognized as a sex hormone-responsive organ. Gender-specific differences in liver function are known to exist. Recently, a higher failure rate for organs transplanted in adults from female donors to male recipients has been reported. This increased failure rate of livers obtainedfrom adult females and transplanted into adult males is thought to occur, at least in part, as a result...
