Does Habitat Diversity Modify the Dietary and Reproductive Response to Prey Fluctuations in a Generalist Raptor Predator, the Eurasian Buzzard Buteo buteo?

چکیده

Predators can modify their diet and demography in response to changes food availability habitat quality. I tested the prediction that some species change predation pattern, between specialist type generalist type, depending on complexity of structure. It was hypothesized dietary is stronger diversified habitats than simplified ones, but opposite tendency occurs case reproductive response. The nestling breeding success Eurasian Buzzard Buteo buteo, abundance its main prey (the common vole Microtus arvalis), most important alternative group (passerines) were estimated over ten years two types agricultural western Poland, i.e., small fields large fields. higher fields, passerines greater frequency voles increased with this crop However, no difference relationship Buzzards found types. dependent abundance, did not differ field seems pattern depends actual individual species, which be modified by quality, rather relative abundance.

Oral Administration of Tiletamine/zolazepam for the Immobilization of the Common Buzzard (buteo Buteo)

--The purpose of this study was to test the efficacy of oral administration of tiletamine/ zolazepam in a bait fbr immobilizing Common Buzzards (Buteo buteo) (N = 20). Two different dosages and two different methods of administration were compared. A dosage of 80 mg/kg was sufficient in most birds to enable safe handling after 30-60 min, whereas the majority of animals receiving 40 rag/ kg stil...
