DNA barcodes and microsatellites: How they complement for species identification in the complex genus Tamarix (Tamaricaceae)

چکیده
Abstract DNA barcoding allows the identification of an organism by comparing sequence selected regions (barcodes) with a previously compiled database, and it can be useful for taxonomic species in complex genera, such as Tamarix . Many this genus show convergent morphology, which leads to frequent errors their identification. Highly variable genetic markers, microsatellites or short repeats (SSR), could used differentiate where barcodes fail. Here, we tested ability both, 5 different marker ( rbcL , matK ITS, trnH ‐ psbA ycf1 ), 14 microsatellites, properly identify species, especially those from Mediterranean Basin, compared pros cons analytical methods certain The two‐locus + ITS were best‐performing combinations, allowing up 69% 70%, respectively, correct However, failed phylogenetically close groups, many species. use SSR aid combination both types data (DNA SSR) improved success. was relevant detecting presence hybridization processes, are common genus. caution must exercised when choosing clustering since lead very results.

DNA barcodes for biosecurity: invasive species identification.
Biosecurity encompasses protecting against any risk through 'biological harm', not least being the economic impact from the spread of pest insects. Molecular diagnostic tools provide valuable support for the rapid and accurate identification of morphologically indistinct alien species. However, these tools currently lack standardization. They are not conducive to adaptation by multiple sectors ...
متن کاملDNA Barcodes for Species Identification in the Hyperdiverse Ant Genus Pheidole (Formicidae: Myrmicinae)
DNA sequencing is increasingly being used to assist in species identification in order to overcome taxonomic impediment. However, few studies attempt to compare the results of these molecular studies with a more traditional species delineation approach based on morphological characters. Mitochondrial DNA Cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) gene was sequenced, measuring 636 base pairs, from 47 an...
متن کاملEvaluation of single and multilocus DNA barcodes towards species delineation in complex tree genus Terminalia
DNA barcoding is used as a universal tool for delimiting species boundaries in taxonomically challenging groups, with different plastid and nuclear regions (rbcL, matK, ITS and psbA-trnH) being recommended as primary DNA barcodes for plants. We evaluated the feasibility of using these regions in the species-rich genus Terminalia, which exhibits various overlapping morphotypes with pantropical d...

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

BACKGROUND The species boundaries of some venerids are difficult to define based solely on morphological features due to their indistinct intra- and interspecific phenotypic variability. An unprecedented biodiversity crisis caused by human activities has emerged. Thus, to access the biological diversity and further the conservation of this taxonomically muddling bivalve group, a fast and simple...
