Diversity of nitrogen cycling genes at a Midwest long-term ecological research site with different management practices

چکیده
Nitrogen fertilizer results in the release of nitrous oxide (N2O), a concern because N2O is an ozone-depleting substance and greenhouse gas. Although reduction to nitrogen gas can control emissions, factors impacting enzymes involved have not been fully explored. The current study investigated abundance diversity genes cycling (primarily denitrification) under four agricultural management practices (no tillage [NT], conventional [CT], reduced input, biologically-based). work examining soil shotgun sequencing data for nine (napA, narG, nirK, nirS, norB, nosZ, nirA, nirB, nifH). For each gene, relative values, richness indices, taxonomic classification were determined. Additionally, associated with metabolism (defined by KEGG hierarchy) examined. generated statistically compared between practices. (nifH, norB) significantly lower NT treatment one or more other soils. values napA, nifH, nirB different CT. nirS was higher CT others. Diversity nirB). Based on nirS/nirK ratios, represents highest consumption potential In conclusion, microbial communities sensitive practices, which turn, likely has implications emissions. • Four less abundant others soils norB). most sequences many classified within Proteobacteria. Higher indices observed N 2 O potential.

Ecological Informatics: a Long-Term Ecological Research Perspective
Scientists within the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network have provided leadership in ecological informatics since the inception of LTER in 1980. The success of LTER, where research projects span wide temporal and spatial scales, depends on the quality and longevity of the data collected. Scientists have devised data collection, data entry, data access, QA/QC and archiving strategies f...

This paper explores data curation in a Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) setting. It describes a number of salient data characteristics that are specific to the discipline and outlines some central features of the curation approach cultivated within the US LTER network. It goes on to identify recent developments within the international LTER program relating to data issues: increasing hetero...
متن کاملCOVID-19 Intervention Scenarios for a Long-term Disease Management
Background The first outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was successfully restrained in many countries around the world by means of a severe lockdown. Now, we are entering the second phase of the pandemics in which the spread of the virus needs to be contained within the limits that national health systems can cope with. This second phase of the epidemics is expected to last until a...
