Dithienylethene metallodendrimers with high photochromic efficiency

It has been challenging to achieve multi-photochromic systems without affecting the individual photoswitching properties of constituent units. Herein, we present design and synthesis a new family platinum-acetylide dendrimers containing up twenty-one photochromic dithienylethene (DTE) units that exhibit both high efficiency switching properties. Upon irradiation with ultraviolet (UV) visible (vis) light, resultant metallodendrimers display conversion yield good fatigue resistance. More interestingly, cyclization-cycloreversion kinetics revealed property each DTE unit in these is unaffected by its neighbor full ring-closure one single dendrimer achieved.
