The continued growth in the human population of world will generate an increased demand for food that be hard to meet with existing agricultural systems, as equivalent increase land is not available. Predicted changes climate likely exacerbate situation by increasing sea levels and salinisation coastal areas. Although most our crop plants are sensitive salinity, salt-tolerant plants, halophytes, have evolved offer a potential crops can yield saline areas or irrigated water. We searched literature identified using database eHALOPH, native countries Gulf Cooperation Council could developed crops, aim attracting attention plant breeders, agriculturists, farmers, others region possible uses halophytes. Halophytic species grown brackish water where good drainage available used forage fodder, stabilise land, produce biomass fuel. In longer-term, cultivation horticultural those nutraceuticals pharmaceuticals feasible.
