Distance to the Brick cloud using stellar kinematics

چکیده
Context. The central molecular zone at the Galactic center is currently being studied intensively to understand how star formation proceeds under extreme conditions of a galactic nucleus. Knowing position clouds along line sight toward has had important implications in our understanding physics gas and zone.It was recently claimed that dense cloud G0.253 + 0.016 (the Brick) distance $\sim$7.20 kpc from Sun. That would place it outside zone, therefore nuclear stellar disk, but still inside Bulge. Aims. Theoretical considerations as well observational studies show stars belong disk have different kinematics those inner Therefore, we aim constrain Brick by studying proper motions area. Results. population seen shows following three kinematic components: 1) Bulge with an isotropic velocity dispersion $\sim$3.5 micro-arc second per year; 2) eastward moving on near side disk; 3) westward far disk. We clearly see all components comparison field. However, Brick, which blocks light behind it, can only 2). Conclusions. While detection significant component streaming implies must be located and, therefore, forms part zone.

Stellar kinematics of barred galaxies
I show that the counter-rotating core of the barred galaxy NGC5728 could be explained by the internal dynamics of the bar. This supports the idea that the nuclear bar is counter-rotating.
متن کاملThe Kinematics of Galactic Stellar Disks
The disks of galaxies are primarily stellar systems, and fundamentally dynamical entities. Thus, to fully understand galactic disks, we must study their stellar kinematics as well as their morphologies. Observational techniques have now advanced to a point where quite detailed stellar-kinematic information can be extracted from spectral observations. This review presents three illustrative exam...
متن کاملThe Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment. Stellar Distance Indicators in the Magellanic Clouds and Constraints on the Magellanic Cloud Distance Scale
BVI photometry of the Magellanic Clouds collected during the OGLE-II microlensing experiment makes it possible to study in detail photometric properties of the ”major” stellar distance indicators in the Magellanic Clouds. In addition to Cepheids, RR Lyr and red clump stars, which photometry was presented in the earlier OGLE papers, we present the so far most accurate determination of brightness...
متن کاملThe Distance to the Large Magellanic Cloud
A summary of recent Large Magellanic Cloud distance determinations μLMC is presented, with an eye towards pinpointing the source(s) of the resulting large discrepancies encountered between some of the techniques. Thirty-eight recent (1998-1999) measurements of μLMC are highlighted, the extrema for which (18.07 versus 18.74) are inconsistent with one another at the ∼ >3σ level. The lack of overl...
متن کاملThe Distance to the Large Magellanic Cloud
I demonstrate that the two unexpected results in the local Universe: anomalous intrinsic (V − I)0 colors of RR Lyrae stars and clump giants in the Galactic center, and very short distances to Magellanic Clouds inferred from clump giants, can be at least partially resolved with a modified coefficient of selective extinction AV /E(V − I). With this modification, I find a new clump-giant distance ...
