Dissolution of Carbonate Rocks in a Laboratory Setting: Rates and Textures

Determining the dissolution rates of carbonate rocks is vital to advancing our understanding cave, karst, and landscape processes. Furthermore, role important for global carbon budget climate change. A laboratory experiment was setup calculate two whole rock samples with different petrographic makeup (ooids brachiopods). The were also explored under a scanning electron microscope evaluate textures that developed after oolitic limestone dissolved at rate 1579 cm yr−1, pentamerous (dolostone) 799 yr−1. Both did not dissolve evenly across their surface as indicated by microscopy, it appears allochems preferentially matrix/cement some mechanical weathering happened well. This work reports petrography mineralogy consider when exploring evolution attention should be paid considering budget.
