Accurate Luminance from Coarsely Quantized Displays
A video signal should use as many bits (gray levels) as possible, to obtain sufficient amplitude resolution for high quality images. However, (digital) displays use a limited number of bits. We propose a modification to the error diffusion algorithm that enables a decrease in the number of bits, without a decrease in luminance accuracy.
متن کاملSeeing the light: Adapting luminance reveals low-level visual processes in the attentional blink.
It is widely assumed that high-level visual processes subserve the attentional blink (AB). Recent evidence from studies of visual masking during the AB that were designed to directly test the contributions of high-level masking effects, however, have failed to provide empirical support for this position. The implication is that low-level visual processes are crucial to the AB. We tested this id...
متن کاملLuminance artifacts of cathode-ray tube displays for vision research.
Phosphor persistence, video bandwidth, DC restoration and high-voltage regulation affect the appearance of images presented on cathode-ray tubes (CRTs), potentially resulting in differences between nominal and actual stimuli. We illustrate these effects by measuring physical parameters of horizontal and vertical static and counter-phase flickering gratings, and we illustrate problems for vision...
متن کامل47.2: Luminance Management for Seamless Multi-Projector Displays
Multi-projector displays exhibit severe luminance variation. Matching luminance at every pixel to the pixel with most limited luminance range leads to severe degradation in the dynamic range of the display, rendering it practically useless. We present a new optimization technique to manage the luminance in a smooth constraint manner to maintain a perceptual seamlessness while improving the dyna...
متن کاملLuminance probes for contrast measurements in medical displays
We report on a comparative study that examines four conic luminance probes in their ability to measure small-spot display contrast. We performed linear scans of a slit using a computer-controlled stage. We found that, although the probes were assembled according to the same design, small differences in their performance due to minor variations in materials and surfaces can be measured.
