Discerning (Dis)information: Teacher perceptions of critical media literacy

Critical media literacy (CML) is vital for students to navigate the current proliferation of misinformation and disinformation. Despite what known about influence teacher beliefs on classroom practice, little research date has looked at teachers perceive importance CML. The researchers administered a survey throughout U.S. (N = 362) their perceptions teaching CML as part instruction. Using quantitative methods, found primary factor underlying data strong awareness students. While years experience, subject areas, being primary, elementary, or middle school teacher, geographic area, politically conservative progressive were not significant predictors scores, three covariates showed differences gender, educational level, high teacher. Implications education programs professional learning initiatives other suggestions improvement are included in discussion.
