چکیده
This study identified the discard species generated by crab gillnet for targeting blue swimming Portunus pelagicus (Linnaeus 1758) in Banyuasin estuarine of South Sumatra, Indonesia. The fishing gear yielded discarded catch about 12% (25.68 kg) total weight (212.68 kg). For catch, 703 individuals represented 18 from 3 phyla (Arthropoda, Chordata, and Mollusca). crustaceans Charybdis helleri (Milne-Edwards 1867), Clibanarius spp., Matuta planipes(Fabricius 1798), Libinia dubia(Milne Edwards 1834) were majority components these discards accounted 90% discards. Results ecological classification rare, i.e., Chiloscyllium indicum(Gmelin 1789), occasional, punctatum(Müller & Henle 1838), Maculabatis macrura(Bleeker 1852) included International Union Conservation Nature (IUCN) red list as Vulnerable (C. indicum), Near Threatened punctatum), Endangered (M. macrura) category. Based on IUCN status, two Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda (Latreille 1802) Tachypleus gigas (Müller 1785) listed ‘Data Deficient’. Discarded waters is a challenge that need to be conserved (shark, ray, horseshoe crabs). Species with status ranging Data Deficient found dead, except crabs. Mitigation options offered include captive breeding crabs, release protected when caught, modification. These findings can help design suitable mitigations discarding gill nets.

Chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium malariae in south Sumatra, Indonesia.
Oral chloroquine is the treatment of choice for uncomplicated Plasmodium malariae infections worldwide. We did a prospective 28-day in-vivo assessment of the efficacy of chloroquine for treatment of P malariae on Legundi Island in Lampung Bay, Sumatra, Indonesia. Of 28 patients, one had recurrent parasitaemia on day 28, and two had persistent parasitaemia to day 8. Whole-blood chloroquine and d...

A new species of potamid freshwater crab, Malayopotamon weh sp. nov., is described from the island of Pulau Weh off northern Sumatra, Indonesia. The species superficially resembles three Sumatran species: M. batak Ng & Wowor, 1991, M. tobaense (Bott, 1968), and M. turgeo Ng & Tan, 1999, but can easily be distinguished by various carapace as well as gonopod characters.

Risks of toxic ash from artisanal mining of discarded cellphones.
The potential environmental and human health impacts of artisanal mining of electronic waste through open incineration were investigated. A market-representative set of cellphones was dismantled into four component categories-batteries, circuit boards, plastics and screens. The components were shredded, sieved and incinerated at 743-818 °C. The concentrations of 17 metals were determined using ...
متن کاملArtisanal Fisheries Research: A Need for Globalization?
Given limited funds for research and widespread degradation of ecosystems, environmental scientists should geographically target their studies where they will be most effective. However, in academic areas such as conservation and natural resource management there is often a mismatch between the geographic foci of research effort/funding and research needs. The former frequently being focused in...
